Calling all Songwriters!
Thumbs Up Foundation is hosting a song writing competition as part of its annual Peace in the Park celebration. Get your creative energy flowing and submit a 2.5 to 3.5 minute song (lyrics and music) around the theme of Healers, Helpers, and Heroes. Deadline for submission is Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at midnight.
Rules:
1) ELIGIBILITY
· The contest is open to songwriters who are 18 years of age or older on the date of song submission. Any entrant who is a minor in his or her jurisdiction of legal residence will be required to obtain and submit written permission from his or her parent or legal guardian to participate in the contest.
· For the purposes of the competition, a song must have both lyrics and music. All submitted songs must be original, unpublished (or self-published) songs that have been written or co-written by the entrant(s).
· Songs in their entirety can only be created by “human creators”, no elements generated, vocal singing, or instrumentation generated by AI are NOT eligible.
· Submissions are subject to a time limit, minimum of 2.5 minutes and maximum 3.5 minutes.
· For competition purposes, an unpublished song is defined as being recorded and self-released by the entrant(s) and/or not co-published by a commercially active music publisher.
· Co-writers are subject to the same eligibility criteria.
2) SUBMISSION POLICY
· Each entry must be an original, unpublished musical composition (“composition”) for which the contestant retains the copyright and authority to submit and perform the composition in the contest. Peace in the Park & Thumbs Up are not responsible and disclaims any liability for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or misappropriated entries or for any errors in online submissions, including, but not limited to unsuccessful file uploads. Materials submitted will not be returned Peace in the Park & Thumbs Up reserve the right to dispose of all submitted material in any manner.
· The winning song will be utilized by Peace in the Park & Thumbs Up as part of our marketing initiatives and at our discretion in various channels, no royalties, rights are monetary payments will be provided, outside of the winning prize.

4) FINALIST AND WINNER SELECTION
Finalists:
A total of three (3) finalists will be selected to perform in the live performance finals of the 2024 Peace in the Park Concert at Nose Creek Park on September 21st.
The finalists will be selected from their audio submissions by a panel of judges. There, each finalist will perform one original song and the final winner will be announced.
Winner:
Judges will be present at the Peace in the Park concert and will make their final decision. Performances are to be the song submitted as part of the competition in the original form in which it was submitted as an entry for the contest. The announcement of the winner will be presented before our headlining performance is introduced.
6) THE FINALS
· On stage at the live contest finals, we will need you there a determined time for sound check.
· All finalists chosen to perform in the Award Round must pay for their own travel, instrument rental, and any other expenses as part of the performance.
· The Peace in the Park Song Writing Contest is both a performance AND a song writing competition. As such, all finalists will be judged equally on both performance and song writing.
· The format for the finals is as follows: each of the three (3) semi-finalists will perform one original song in front of a panel of judges and a live audience.

8) NOTIFICATIONS & WAIVERS
Selected finalists will be notified by email on August 31st, 2024, and each winner must provide the following items to be eligible to compete in the Peace in the Park Song Writing Contest finals:
(i) an affidavit confirming
(a) that the winner meets the contest eligibility requirements,
(b) that his or her composition is original and unpublished, and
(c) that he or she owns the copyright in the composition.
Peace in the Park and Thumbs Up retain the exclusive right to use in perpetuity any media inclusive of ancillary rights created in conjunction with the Peace in the Park Song Writing Contest including but not limited to; live recordings, video, webisodes, and photographs. Participants grant Peace in the Park and Thumbs Up, the use of this archival material in perpetuity.
9) RESTRICTIONS
This contest is void where prohibited. All federal, provincial, and municipal laws, regulations, rules, and ordinances apply.
· Entries must be unpublished original songs.
· Submissions are subject to a time limit, minimum of 2.5 minutes and maximum 3.5 minutes. But if you are selected as one of our three finalists, your live performance of one original songs on the finals contest stage must meet a 3.5-minute limit or you will be penalized.
· The song MUST be performed by the song contest entrant(s).
· Co-written songs may be submitted, but the person who enters the song must be the one who is the lead singer of the tune.
· IMPORTANT POINT: Though co-writers/co-performers will be acknowledged, only the performer/songwriter of the song can qualify to win a prize.
10) EXPLANATION OF RIGHTS
· The writer(s) retains all rights to submitted songs.
